The curriculum

Five modules. One complete education.

The course is built around African fabrics and African bodies. Drafted for African proportions, not adapted from a European syllabus.

Foundations of African textile

You begin with the cloth itself. Ankara, Adire, and Aso-oke are not interchangeable — each has a structure, a drape, and a cultural weight that shapes every cut you make.

Pattern drafting from the body

Measurements come first. You learn to draft flat patterns directly from body measurements, bypassing commercial sizing that rarely fits African body proportions.

Garment construction and finishing

Seam allowance, stay-stitching, hand-rolled hems. This module covers the craft details that separate a finished garment from a rough assembly.

Aso-ebi coordination and client work

Uniform dressing for celebrations is a real commercial skill. You practise reading a client brief, sourcing consistent fabric lots, and delivering on deadline.

Practicum and assessment

The final practicum is a complete garment submitted for review by the NFD Academy tutors. Assessment is practical, not theoretical.

Why NFD Academy

Four things that make this course worth your time.

Curriculum

Built for African textiles
from the first module.

Most fashion courses start with European pattern blocks and add African fabric as an afterthought. NFD Academy starts with Ankara, Adire, and Aso-oke — the drape, the body, the structure each demands. You study how wax-print directional patterns behave differently from knits, how Aso-oke width governs construction choices, and how Adire resist-dye affects seam finishing.

Pattern drafting, garment finishing, and Aso-ebi production are core modules, not electives. Every technique is demonstrated on Nigerian fabrics, in Nigerian proportions, for Nigerian occasions.

Branches

Two physical branches
behind the online course.

NFD Academy operates two pilot branches where the curriculum was first tested face-to-face. That foundation matters: the video lessons, practicum briefs, and grading rubrics all come from real studio teaching, not from a slide deck assembled for the internet.

When you enrol in an online cohort, you are studying a course that has already been taught in a room. The feedback loops, the common mistakes, the questions students actually ask — all of that shaped what you are watching.

Pricing

Free entry. Paid depth. No campus fees ever.

The first modules in each course are free. You watch, you assess whether the teaching style works for you, then you pay only when you are ready to continue. Paid courses are priced from ₦15,000 to ₦50,000 — less than a single bolt of quality Aso-oke fabric.

Practicum Network

Franchise studios for
hands-on practicum work.

Garment construction cannot be learned entirely through a screen. NFD Academy is building a franchise practicum network — accredited studio branches where online students can complete structured practicum hours close to where they live.

The network is growing. When you enrol, you gain access to the practicum placement process as branches open in your region. Online theory and physical practicum together produce a complete certificate — one that reflects real making, not just watching.
